The U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics projects more than 30 percent job growth through 2020, with starting pay averaging $22 an hour. Learn about pre- and post-operation procedures such as asepsis and sterilization, infection control, patient safety, surgical pharmacology and anesthesia, wound healing and surgical case management. Become comfortable with ethical aspects and safe practices. Gain an understanding of human anatomy, general surgery concepts, operation instruments and their applications, biomedical science, operating room procedures and maintenance, wound closure and how to care for the instruments used during surgery. Discuss scope of practice, risk management, blood-borne pathogens and various types of sutures, appropriate gowning and gloving technique of self and other team members, and recognize specific drug classification and their characterizations.
