CourseGraphic Whether for honey production, improved pollination of your veggies, or simply the enjoyment of living in harmony with these amazing insects, discover the hobby of backyard beekeeping.  Understand the environmental importance of honey bees, native bees and the equipment necessary to successfully raise healthy colonies of honey bees in your backyard.  Learn traditional methods of maximizing honey production as well as more recent trends in natural beekeeping. Delve into biology, treatments, harvesting and the many uses of bee products. Discuss initial and long-term investment costs.

$10 materials fee paid to instructor on the first day of class.  
Required text for the class is “The Backyard Beekeeper” 5th edition, by Kim Flottum.
Each student will be required to provide their own protective gear, including a veil that covers the head and face as a minimum
